Downtown Water Bottle Filling Stations

Water bottle filling station downtown in the parkOur downtown water bottle filling stations reduce waste, cut down on litter, and save users money! They're a healthier, more earth friendly way to drink up!

Individuals, organizations, and governments are spending time and effort to reduce the amount of plastic in our lives. Numerous reasons exist. Here are four:

  1. most plastics are made from fossil fuels (and those that aren't often have harmful chemicals), which are heating up our planet;
  2. most plastics aren't recycled, so they aggravate our solid waste overload;
  3. plastics in landfills last essentially forever and those burned in incinerators could release toxic chemicals; and
  4. plastic food and liquid packaging and containers (including water bottles) pose potential health risks (most water that comes in plastic bottles contain microplastics that we ingest).

Countless resources are available that provide tips and guidance on ways to cut back on plastic exposure. Some are extremely easy. One is to get a reusable water bottle made from safe materials. Lee thinks that this one step is so important that we've invested in installing two (soon to be three) water bottle filling stations downtown. The two existing ones are adjacent to the path leading to the new section of the Public Library and behind the Chamber's information booth in the Church Park (pictured to the right). The third station will be located to the side of Meow 'n Growl at the corner of Main Street and Frank Consolati Road. There's also a station at the fitness court behind the Lee Middle/High School. Follow this link to learn more about the stations we have downtown, and click on this link to see a larger map of where the stations are.
