ROUTINE ANIMAL CONTROL CALLS

 

  • Dog bites
  • Stray domestics (dogs & cats)
  • Investigate sick, injured, or vicious domestic animals
  • Deceased domestic animals of unknown origin (dogs & cats)
  • Barking dogs/Unlicensed dogs/Loose dogs
  • Follow-up to citizen complaints to domestic animals
  • Investigate reports of domestic animals exposed to rabies
  • Kennel operations
  • Coordinate and manage dangerousness hearings for Selectboards
  • Enforcement of related activities for violations of bylaws and regulations
  • Coordinate with town clerks on kennel licensure
  • Cooperate with surrounding ACO’s as needed 
  • ACO does not handle wildlife  

 

EXAMPLE EMERGENCY CALLS

 

Call local Police Department/dispatch for:

  • Vicious animals that are causing an immediate threat to the public
  • Dogs that have been detained
  • Loose dogs during day
  • Department of Public Works (DPW) will pick up and dispose of dead animals when available.
  • Domestic animals picked up by the Police Department should be brought to kennel if needed and to notify ACO staff that an animal is in the kennel.

 

 

 

 

NUISANCE WILDLIFE PROCEDURES

 

ACO does not handle wildlife calls/services. In case of emergency call 9-1-1

ACO VACATION COVERAGE POLICY

 

  • ACO on-call will only handle routine calls and take care of kennel as needed. All other calls should be addressed to dispatch.
  • ACO will coordinate and contact Dispatch on availability and Lee/Lenox Police Dept.’s
