BOARD OF SELECTMEN
MINUTES OF MEETING – OCTOBER 10, 2006

Present: Ch. Patricia D. Carlino, Gordon D. Bailey, Board of Selectmen, Frank A. Consolati, absent
Robert L. Nason, Town Administrator
Ch. Carlino called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

1. Approval of Minutes: September 26, 2006

2. Public Hearings: None

3. General Business:
The Board voted, unanimously, to approve a Utility Cut Permit for Bill Ketchen to install footing drains across Cone Avenue.

The Board voted, unanimously, to approve a Common Victuallers License for Hotties Restaurant and Tavern.

The Board voted, unanimously, to approve a Common Victuallers License for Panda Garden Chinese Restaurant.

The Board received a letter from Joseph Furgal, Finance Committee member, stating that due to future commitments, he would be unable to attend up-coming Finance Committee meetings and therefore tendered his resignation. He has been a member for ten years and the Selectmen thanked him for his service to the town.

4. Pending Business:
Ch. Carlino announced that through the efforts of Jaimy Messana, Land Use Assistant, a workshop has been scheduled for Dec. 6, 2006 at 6 PM on the subject of variances and special permits. Selectman Bailey asked if this workshop could be open to more people, especially local attorneys and people who may be planning to come in for a special permit or variance.. Mr. Nason will follow-up on this with Ms. Messana.

A household hazardous waste collection will be held on Oct. 14th from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Great Barrington Recycling Center.

A recycling event will be held at the Springfield Materials Recycling Facility on Nov. 4, 2006 from 9 AM to 1 PM to recycle computer monitors and all computer peripherals. A limit of two monitors per car will be accepted for free for a donation of an unwrapped children’s holiday gift for a local charity.

5. Town Administrator:
Mr. Nason went over the brief list of articles for the special town meeting warrant. They included general operating budget revisions, ambulance service operating budget revision, oil tank removals from the wastewater pump stations, WWTP construction administration, additional FY06 Chapter 90 authorization and two zoning by-law changes. The meeting will be held on Nov. 2, 2006 at 7 PM at the Middle/High School auditorium.

6. Public Comments: Ch. Carlino once again announced that Trick or Treat night will be Oct. 31st from 5 PM to 7 PM.

Regarding a follow-up from the Board’s previous meeting, Selectman Bailey said he spoke with the Superintendent of Schools regarding having a Selectmen’s meeting there for the middle and high school students. They also discussed going to individual classes, such as political science. The Superintendent was receptive to the idea and will get back to Selectman Bailey.

7. Motion to adjourn:
The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at 7 PM. The meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM.
